The Oscillatory Mode of Droplet Coalescence

AFA. I. Fedyushkin

Key Points

  • The aim is to explore the dynamics of two droplets coalescing and estimate the timing of their oscillatory behavior.
  • Investigated dynamics of droplet fusion through numerical modeling.
  • Focused on a two-phase gas–liquid system.
  • Analyzed how different fluid properties affect droplet shape over time.
  • Found oscillating changes in droplet shape during coalescence.
  • Proposed a procedure to estimate the end time of oscillatory modes.

Abstract

Dynamics of the fusion of two droplets of the same fluid is investigated. Numerical modeling of a two-phase gas–liquid system reveals oscillating changes in the shape of the droplets over time for different properties of the fluids. A procedure is proposed for estimating the end time of the oscillatory mode of droplet coalescence.
