Key Points

  • The aim is to explore the validity of different simulators for assessing OBGYN ultrasound skills and the feasibility of remote evaluations.
  • Assessment of three different ultrasound simulators for obstetrics and gynecology
  • Evaluation of skill competence using simulation techniques
  • Consideration of remote evaluation by certified experts
  • Simulators show promise for evaluating ultrasound skills in OBGYN
  • Remote evaluation by experts could be feasible
  • Further investigation needed for effective implementation of simulation-based assessment

Abstract

Simulation-based techniques show potential for evaluating OBGYN ultrasound competence. It may be possible for evaluation to be conducted remotely by experts certified in maternal-fetal medicine. While promising as an educational and training tool, the role of simulation as a method for remotely assessing ultrasound skills warrants further investigation. © 2026 International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
