Abstract

BACKGROUND: Health camps are an effective measure to bring health care services within the reach of the population who are devoid of such services. To assess the socio-clinical and morbidity profile of beneficiaries attending the health camp with a focus on non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and to evaluate the perception of all stakeholders towards the health camp. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in the peri-urban area of East Singhbhum District, Jharkhand, among 196 beneficiaries attending a multi-specialty health camp, with documentation of their health profiles and in-depth interviews (10) with stakeholders involved in the health camp. RESULTS: The majority of beneficiaries were females (63.3%), with 40% being illiterate. The mean age was 33.3 ± 21.8 years, mean body mass index was 19.9 ± 4.01 kg/m 2 . Around 19.89% were identified with one or other forms of NCDs. Among those, 66% were aware of their status, 60% were on treatment, and 65% were compliant with the treatment. Likewise, 80% of participants were not aware of the National Program for Prevention and Control of NCD. The themes generated from in-depth interviews were presented as themes under categories of strengths and weaknesses. CONCLUSIONS: The socio-demographic profile shows a poor trend of health-seeking behavior among the general population. Various morbidities identified were related to lifestyle diseases. The clinical profile seems inclined towards NCDs, which need to be diagnosed early through routine health camps in the community setting, along with health awareness and follow-up camps, as perceived by the stakeholders involved in the camp.
