The Preservation and Transmission of Lyu Opera in Binzhou City, Shandong Province, China

This article investigates the Preservation and transmission of Lyu Opera in Binzhou City, Shandong Province, China. A qualitative research approach was adopted, using interviews and field observations as the main data collection methods. Respondents were interviewed on-site, and the data were thematically analysed. Lyu Opera originated from folk culture and is deeply rooted in the everyday lives of ordinary people, embodying rich cultural connotations and significant artistic value. Over more than a century of development, it has gained widespread popularity among local communities. However, rapid social transformation, the rise of the Internet era, and increasing cultural integration have profoundly altered its living environment, weakening traditional modes of performance, transmission, and audience engagement. As a result, public awareness and in-depth understanding of Lyu Opera have declined, posing unprecedented challenges to its preservation and transmission. This study examines and synthesizes key approaches to the preservation and transmission of Lyu Opera through integrated pedagogical, social, and technological strategies. It emphasizes systematic training, community-based participation, age-differentiated teaching models, and sustainable talent cultivation mechanisms, alongside the importance of institutional support, evaluation reform, and long-term resource development. Furthermore, the study highlights the crucial role of digital media in expanding dissemination while preserving the traditional aesthetic core of Lyu Opera, thereby contributing to its sustainable development in contemporary society.
