Key Points

  • Thromboembolism incidence may have declined following public health awareness events, indicating potential impacts on prescribing patterns.
  • In Japan, the change in prescription trends for oral contraceptives coincided with increased awareness around thromboembolism risks.
  • The analysis explores factors like coagulation screening and shifts in patient selection to assess their influence on outcomes.
  • Highlights the need for ongoing evaluation of public health campaigns, as they may affect clinical decision-making and patient safety.

Abstract

Although no direct causal relationship is clear, public health awareness events might have influenced clinical practices, including the preferential selection of lower-risk patients and promotion of coagulation screening, possibly resulting in a decline in the incidence of thromboembolism.
