Abstract

People with prediabetes are at high risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM) and its associated complications. The oyster peptides has been proved to have good efficacy in regulating blood glucose and lipid metabolism in animal studies, but clinical evidence is lacking. On the other hand, the preventative effect of oyster peptides on preventing the onset of T2DM, if any, is unknown. In this study, a 12-week double-blinded randomized controlled trial of the oyster peptides was conducted in the prediabetic patients. Results of the study showed that the oyster peptides intervention could modulate the glucolipid metabolism indices including FBG, FINS, TC, LDL-C, and TG in the prediabetic patients. While, the intervention did not show a significant effect on the anthropology parameters or the liver and kidney functions. This study demonstrated the potential of the oyster peptides in preventing the onset of T2DM, which provided clinical evidence for the development of relevant functional foods.
