Key Points

  • Overall, perioperative pain management improved following the training program, enhancing patient care in knee replacements.
  • Key metrics revealed increased accuracy in pain evaluation and more effective analgesic practices across the board.
  • This was a prospective before and after study assessing quality improvement initiatives targeting nurse anesthetist students.
  • The findings suggest that integrating students into healthcare can lead to enhanced practices and identifies areas for further intervention.

Abstract

The nurse anesthetist student-led training program improved several aspects of perioperative pain evaluation and management in total knee replacement patients, particularly documentation and analgesic practices. These results highlight the value of involving nurse anesthetist students in quality-improvement initiatives and identify remaining gaps for future targeted interventions.
