Key Points

  • High response rates and acceptable survival were observed with atezolizumab plus platinum-etoposide in extensive-stage small cell lung cancer.
  • Patients with hepatic metastases or poor ECOG performance status faced worse survival outcomes, indicating the need for careful prognostic assessment.
  • Data were drawn from a retrospective multicenter observational approach, providing real-world evidence but lacking a randomized control group.
  • These findings support using atezolizumab in certain patients but highlight the necessity of further controlled trials for validation.

Abstract

In this real-world cohort, atezolizumab plus platinum-etoposide achieved high response rates and acceptable survival with a manageable safety profile in extensive-stage SCLC. Baseline ECOG performance status, hepatic metastases, and older age were associated with worse survival, underscoring the prognostic value of clinical factors. These observational data complement, but do not validate, the results of IMpower133, as no randomized control group or formal trial emulation methods were used.
