Abstract

The advent of nanotechnology has resulted in the inclusion of ferrocene (fc) within polymeric matrices to enhance and achieve a vast range of properties already aforementioned including fire retardancy. The inculcation of fc within polymeric matrices has improved flame retardant (FR) and other features of fc/polymeric nanocomposites. Due to its inherent electronically and structurally applied features, fc is utilized in versatile range of segments including fuel additives for enhancement of their performances and minimization of emissions; electrochemically affiliated sensing devices for detecting various molecular entities and ions prevalence in solutions (glucose, dopamine, and heavy metals; catalysts in numerous organic reactions (oxidation, hydrogenation, and cross-synergizing reactions; and in medicinal chemistry in for developing antiviral, antimicrobial as well as anticancer drugs. Ferrocene (Fc) is an organometallic entity composed of two cyclopentadienyl rings engaged onto an iron atom at the center. Furthermore, derivatives of fc have been utilized in synthesizing vast range of materials (polymerics, liquid crystals, as well as nanoparticles), exhibiting vast electronically and magnetically affiliated features. Therefore, this paper elucidates multifunctional properties optimization and emerging applications of fc/polymeric nanoarchitectures
