Return to cycling protocol after chronic coccydynia: a case report.

MHMelissa HamiltonKMKristen Mangos

Key Points

  • Chronic coccydynia can significantly impact an individual's ability to participate in sports, particularly cycling.
  • An evidence-based protocol outlines specific steps for returning to cycling, focusing on managing pain and recovery.
  • Management strategies may include tailored exercises and gradual introduction to cycling activities as part of recovery efforts.
  • The lack of established guidelines for coccydynia highlights the need for effective return-to-sport protocols in athletic contexts.

Abstract

Coccydynia is a painful condition that has no universally accepted treatment or guidelines for management. As such, there are no return-to-sport protocols for individuals who have developed coccydynia in sports. Here we present an evidence-based protocol that can assist practitioners in the management of chronic coccydynia.
