Abstract

South Africa has experienced significant health system challenges during epidemic outbreaks, necessitating research to understand resilience mechanisms. A structured survey study was conducted among healthcare professionals across various sectors of the public health system. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire assessing knowledge, preparedness, and performance during epidemic events. The analysis revealed that effective communication and rapid response protocols significantly enhanced health systems' resilience in managing epidemics, with over 70% of respondents reporting improved coordination among different healthcare facilities. This study underscores the importance of robust communication channels and standardised protocols to bolster health system resilience during epidemic events. Enhanced training programmes for healthcare professionals on emergency response procedures should be prioritised, alongside ongoing evaluation of health systems' preparedness strategies.
