Infrastructures of Dissidence: Artistic Tactics Against Internet Monopolies

This paper analyses the dynamics of power, control, and surveillance in internet infrastructures, such as undersea cables and satellites, paying special attention to the dominant rhetoric of technosolutionism and technocolonialism that large technological oligopolies use to extract value from those most in need. On the other hand, this text presents tactics that artists and collectives have used to counteract the internet's infrastructure monopolies, providing citizens with tools and information to visualise the broad spectrum of oppression and vulnerabilities. The objective is to encourage critical thinking about the dynamics of control, monetisation and weaponisation of internet infrastructures.
