Afrofuturism as a Lens to Explore African Futures in Tanzania

Afrofuturism represents a contemporary cultural movement that explores African heritage through futuristic perspectives. In Tanzania, this field is under-researched despite its potential to illuminate future-oriented narratives within African studies. Qualitative data from interviews with Tanzanian artists, scholars, and policymakers were analysed using thematic content analysis. The data revealed that Afrofuturism in Tanzania is predominantly focused on technological advancements and urbanization as key themes, indicating a strong emphasis on modernizing the country's infrastructure and economy. Afrofuturism in Tanzania offers insights into how cultural narratives can influence societal expectations for future development.
