Abstract

Solar microgrids have emerged as a significant solution for off-grid energy access in Senegal's rural communities. Qualitative data collection methods were employed, including semi-structured interviews with local community members and village leaders, and document analysis of project records and reports. Solar microgrids have been successfully implemented in 75% of the villages studied, enabling households to access electricity for basic needs such as lighting and mobile phone charging. The study underscores the positive economic benefits associated with solar microgrid adoption, facilitating activities like food processing, education, and health services. Policy makers should consider supporting ongoing solar microgrid projects and expanding their reach to enhance energy access in rural Senegal.
