Key Points

  • To evaluate the effectiveness of citicoline-loaded PHBA tubular grafts in supporting axonal regeneration after sciatic nerve injury.
  • Utilized PHBA-based tubular grafts with oriented nanofiber structure containing citicoline.
  • Conducted experimental nerve injury model in an appropriate setting.
  • Compared the outcomes of grafts with traditional autograft for nerve repair.
  • PHBA tubular grafts supported peripheral nerve regeneration.
  • Results were not superior to traditional autografts.
  • Citicoline grafts may offer a viable option when autografts are unavailable.

Abstract

PHBA-based tubular graft with oriented nanofiber structure containing citicoline supports peripheral nerve regeneration. Although our results are not better than autograft, it may be a promising alternative for cases where autologous graft is not available.
