Abstract

Smallholder farming systems in Ethiopia face significant challenges related to system reliability, which can be influenced by various factors such as climate variability and access to inputs. The study employs the difference-in-differences (DiD) econometric technique, which compares changes in outcomes over time between a treatment group exposed to interventions and a control group not affected by these interventions. The DiD approach is chosen due to its ability to account for unobserved heterogeneity. The difference-in-differences approach provides a robust method for evaluating the impact of interventions on smallholder farming systems' reliability. This framework can serve as a model for other regions facing similar challenges. Future research should consider expanding the scope to include additional variables and potentially different sectors within Ethiopian agriculture, while also exploring potential policy mechanisms that can enhance system reliability in the energy sector. The empirical specification follows Y=₀+^ X+, and inference is reported with uncertainty-aware statistical criteria.
