Epistemic Rupture defines the structural moment when a system’s internal representations detach from the reality they are meant to describe, producing outputs that are synthetic, contradictory, or self‑referential. Using the SR diagnostic framework, the essay maps how synthetic data loops, semantic drift, infrastructural misalignment, and dominant‑cluster overfitting erode epistemic grounding until the system transitions from degraded representation to active misrepresentation. It argues that Epistemic Rupture is a deep infrastructural failure—distinct from visibility or legibility issues—marking the point at which a platform or AI system loses contact with the world it claims to model.
