Key Points

  • To explore the role of interoceptive sensibility in chronic pain and its response to interdisciplinary pain management programs.
  • Examined the impacts of interdisciplinary pain management programs on participants with chronic pain
  • Analyzed changes in interoceptive self-regulation and functional clinical outcomes
  • Considered cultural, demographic, and psychosocial differences in the evaluation
  • Improvement in interoceptive sensibility reported after program participation
  • Participants demonstrated better pain management and functional clinical outcomes
  • Findings suggest the need for tailored approaches considering individual differences

Abstract

IPMPs may be uniquely suited to improving interoceptive self-regulation, which could be an important treatment target in chronic pain. More research is needed to examine the role of interoceptive sensibility in different pain conditions as well as the impact of cultural, demographic, and psychosocial differences on interoceptive sensibility in chronic pain.
