Key Points

  • To characterize the bacterial and fungal microbiomes of Zostera marina seeds at an early developmental stage.
  • Conducted 16S rRNA gene and ITS2 amplicon sequencing.
  • Analyzed microbial communities present on seagrass seeds.
  • Focused on early germination stages of Zostera marina.
  • Identified diverse bacterial communities associated with the seeds.
  • Characterized various fungal communities within the seed microbiome.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Understanding seagrass seed microbiomes is crucial for developing microbial-mediated methods to improve germination in restoration efforts. Here, we used 16S rRNA gene and ITS2 amplicon sequencing to characterize the bacterial and fungal communities of seeds from the model seagrass, Zostera marina .
