Key Points

  • This research aims to identify and evaluate modifiable risk factors for Alzheimer's disease in Latin American populations.
  • Conducted a systematic review of 63 studies
  • Examined 12 risk factors identified by the Lancet Commission
  • Analyzed population-attributable fractions of 35-48%
  • Identified low educational attainment as a major risk factor (OR 1.8-3.2)
  • Highlighted hypertension as another significant risk factor (OR 1.6-2.4)
  • Established potential for targeted public health interventions

Abstract

Systematic review of modifiable risk factors for Alzheimer's disease in Latin American populations (2000-2024). Analyzes 63 studies examining 12 Lancet Commission risk factors. Combined population-attributable fraction estimates: 35-48%. Low educational attainment (OR 1.8-3.2) and hypertension (OR 1.6-2.4) are the highest-priority targets.
