Key Points

  • This research aims to explore effective conditions for power generation through fluidelastic vibration.
  • Conducted experiments varying flow velocity and pitch to diameter ratio.
  • Measured vibration acceleration and calculated amplitude.
  • Used a grid of cylinders with the center cylinder vibrating perpendicular to the fluid flow.
  • Identified specific conditions that enhance vibration amplitude.
  • Demonstrated the potential of fluidelastic vibration for converting fluid energy into usable power.

Abstract

In this study, aiming at a power generation method using fluidelastic vibration, experiments were conducted by independently changing the flow velocity and pitch to diameter ratio, which are considered to be particularly influential, in order to investigate the conditions that generate large vibrations. In the experiments, the acceleration of the vibration was measured and its amplitude was calculated using a device that uses fluidelastic vibration to convert fluid energy into vibration. The experimental apparatus consisted of a group of cylinders arranged in a grid of three rows and three columns, only the center one of which could vibrate at right angles to the flow.
