This study investigates the socio-cultural and economic effects of prolonged border conflict on the residents of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir, a region situated along the volatile Line of Control between India and Pakistan. The research explores how persistent insecurity disrupts everyday life, particularly education, livelihoods, and cultural activities. It examines the roles of artistic practices, national identity, and local leadership in fostering social cohesion and resilience. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining qualitative and quantitative data collected through structured questionnaires administered to participants representing diverse age groups, genders, and socio-economic backgrounds. The research studied the perspective of the border community on education, economic stability, leadership during conflict and cultural expression. Descriptive statistical analysis was used to identify trends and draw insights into community experiences and coping strategies. While the study does not neglect the challenges encountered by border populations, such as disruptions in schooling, limited economic opportunities, and psychological distress, it also emphasizes the mechanisms through which communities maintain unity and collective strength. Cultural practices, grassroots leadership, and a shared sense of national belonging are potential stabilizing forces in uncertain contexts. By examining these dynamics, the research contributes to a deeper understanding of how conflict-affected communities adapt and sustain themselves. The findings offer valuable implications for policymakers, educators, and peacebuilding practitioners working to support border regions and strengthen social resilience in areas exposed to prolonged insecurity.
