Efficacy of Therapeutic Putty in Legibility of Handwriting for Children Aged 6 to 10 Years

Handwriting forms the foundation for academic success and effective Communication. Handwriting is an essential skill for school children, and its legibility depends on fine motor strength, coordination, and hand control. When these skills are weak, children often experience poor handwriting legibility, which can affect their school performance. Many children aged 6–10 years struggle with handwriting due to weak hand muscles and poor motor skills. The development of handwriting involves a combination of motor, perceptual, cognitive, and sensory skills that work together to produce neat and readable writing. Several components contribute to development of handwriting. An attempt through Therapeutic putty to enhance handwriting legibility was attempted in this study. Therapeutic putty is particularly effective for children because it is safe, reusable, and require fun ways to strengthen their hand functions. There is a growing need to identify practical school-friendly interventions that can be easily administered to large groups of children. Without requiring expensive equipment this study is therefore needed to evaluate the effectiveness of therapeutic putty for improving handwriting legibility. The results may help occupational therapists integrate this into school programs, ultimately enhancing academic performance and self-confidence among children.
