Key Points

  • The research examines the recovery of luminescent properties in a europium(III) complex after UV exposure.
  • Used a mesogenic europium(III) beta-diketonate complex on a quartz substrate.
  • Employed UV laser irradiation to assess luminescence reduction during exposure.
  • Monitored the recovery of luminescence in the dark at room temperature for 22 hours.
  • The luminescence brightness of Eu3+ ions decreased during prolonged UV irradiation.
  • Initial luminescence characteristics were restored after 22 hours in the dark.
  • The findings suggest potential stability of the europium complex under certain conditions.

Abstract

The ability of a mesogenic europium(III) beta-diketonate complex fixed on a quartz substrate by drying a highly concentrated solution of the complex in carbon tetrachloride to reduce the luminescence brightness of Eu3+ ions during prolonged UV laser irradiation and to spontaneously restore the initial luminescence parameters when kept in the dark for at least 22 hours at room temperature has been experimentally established.
