Key Points

  • This research aims to assess the effects of labor epidural analgesia on uterine activity monitored via electrohysterography.
  • Follow-up study using electrohysterography to monitor uterine activity during labor.
  • Evaluation of uterine contraction frequency and duration relative to epidural analgesia initiation.
  • Analysis of EHG-derived amplitude parameters including AUC, baseline tone, and maximum amplitude.
  • Labor epidural analgesia does not impact uterine contraction frequency or duration.
  • A significant reduction in EHG-derived amplitude parameters was observed, which may affect labor progression.

Abstract

LEA initiation does not affect uterine contraction frequency or duration, but it is associated with a significant reduction in relative EHG-derived amplitude parameters (AUC, baseline tone, and maximum amplitude), which could potentially affect progression of labor. Further studies are required to explore these parameters and their clinical implications.
