Key Points

  • The aim is to analyze the birefringence rotation field of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) and identify phase-coherent structures.
  • Utilized Planck 2018 polarization data for analysis.
  • Grouped interior pixels into adjacency shells based on graph distance from boundary.
  • Employed harmonic diagnostics, surrogate testing, and cross-shell spectral correlations.
  • Identified a persistent harmonic structure with Δℓ ≈ 109 across shells.
  • Found strong k = 1 Fourier power through shells k = 1–3.
  • Reported high cross-shell spectral correlations ranging from 0.67 to 0.93.
  • Noted exponential amplitude decay with an e-fold scale of approximately 1.32 shells.
  • Observed phase drift of approximately 15.5° per shell.

Abstract

Summary This record documents the analysis pipeline and results underlying the identification of a phase-coherent harmonic structure in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) birefringence rotation field α (n̂). The analysis uses Planck 2018 polarization data and a locked rotation-field reconstruction at NSIDE = 16. Earlier project stages (v2. 9–v2. 12) identified a standing-wave harmonic structure along a dual-domain boundary (D₁ ∪ D₂) characterized by a periodicity Δℓ ≈ 109. Version v2. 13 tests whether this boundary structure extends into the domain interior. Interior pixels are grouped into adjacency shells defined by graph distance from the boundary. Each shell is analyzed using harmonic diagnostics, surrogate testing, and cross-shell spectral correlations. The results show that the boundary harmonic structure propagates inward with predictable amplitude attenuation and phase evolution. Key results: • Persistent Δℓ ≈ 109 harmonic structure across shells • Strong k = 1 Fourier power through shells k = 1–3 • Cross-shell spectral correlations of approximately 0. 93, 0. 85, and 0. 67 • Exponential amplitude decay with e-fold scale ≈ 1. 32 shells • Phase drift ≈ 15. 5° per shell • Complex propagation coefficient q = −0. 755 − 0. 270i (R² ≈ 0. 93) These results indicate that the observed boundary structure represents a cross-section of a deeper interior field pattern within the birefringence rotation field α (n̂). Dataset contents include: • Locked rotation-field map α₁₆ (NSIDE = 16) • High-latitude analysis mask (Hₘask) • Domain segmentation and boundary chain maps • Shell analysis outputs (k = 0–3) • Harmonic spectra and surrogate test results • Reproducibility manifests and verification files All analysis inputs are locked to ensure reproducibility. No recomputation of α (n̂) was performed during the interior propagation analysis.
