Abstract

The Phaistos Disc, discovered in 1908 at the Minoan palace of Phaistos (Crete, 1700 BCE), has remained undeciphered for over a century despite extensive scholarly analysis. This study presents evidence that the disc functions not as linguistic text but as acoustic notation encoding the natural harmonic series. Analysis of sign occurrence frequencies reveals a precise mathematical relationship: sign frequency count multiplied by base frequency 77.78 Hz yields musical pitches with 99%+ accuracy. The 45 unique signs map to harmonic overtones from D#2 (78 Hz) to F#6 (1478 Hz), with the most frequent sign (02, PLUMED HEAD, 19 occurrences) encoding the 19th harmonic at F#6. This finding connects to contemporaneous Proto-Elamite artifacts from Iran (3100-2900 BCE) that demonstrate identical F#6 resonance, suggesting cross-cultural recognition of F# as a planetary harmonic constant.
