Key Points

  • To develop a user-friendly service that aids satellite operators in collision avoidance against space debris.
  • Developed S-CAN as a navigation service for collision avoidance.
  • Designed the interface to be intuitive for users without orbital mechanics expertise.
  • Conducted performance tests to assess functionality and effectiveness.
  • S-CAN simplifies the planning of collision avoidance maneuvers.
  • Significantly reduces the operational burden on satellite operators.
  • Increases the accessibility of collision avoidance strategies for all satellite operators.

Abstract

With the expansion of human space activities, the space debris problem is becoming more serious. Because space debris approaches satellites day and night, satellite operators are forced to perform space debris avoidance operations on a daily basis, which places a heavy operational burden on them. In addition, the study of collision avoidance methods requires expertise in orbital mechanics, which is especially difficult for satellite operators who do not have experts in orbital mechanics. Therefore, we have developed S-CAN, a service that allows anyone to easily and quickly plan collision avoidance, as a solution to reduce the operational burden on satellite operators. In this presentation, we will give an overview of S-CAN and introduce its functions and performance.
