Morchella dunalii Boud. is a spring species belonging to the genus Morchella Dill. ex Pers., characterised by a typically Mediterranean distribution. Although apparently widespread across Mediterranean habitats, it remains poorly known and is rarely documented in mycological literature. It was first described in 1887 by the French pharmacist and mycologist Jean-Louis Émile Boudier, and only recently in 2011 and 2015 fully typified. The present study documents and officially confirms the presence of M. dunalii in Italy, specifically on the island of Sicily and in the Liguria region. To this end, morphological, ecological, and molecular data are provided based on specimens collected in these geographical areas.
