Key Points

  • This study aims to identify predictors of diabetes distress to improve patient screening and care.
  • Longitudinal design assessing direct and interactive predictors of diabetes distress.
  • Focus on high-risk patient cohort with Type 2 diabetes.
  • Evaluation of both life and disease-related stressors.
  • Identified significant independent predictors of high diabetes distress.
  • Findings indicate the importance of regularly assessing stressors in clinical settings.

Abstract

We identified a list of significant, independent direct and interactive predictors of high DD that can be used for patient screening to identify this high-risk patient cohort. Given the impact of high DD on diabetes behavioural and biological indicators, the findings suggest the usefulness of regularly appraising both current life and disease-related stressors in clinical care.
