Abstract

ABSTRACT Chrysojasminum subhumile (W.W.Sm.) Banfi & Galasso is reported as a new record for the flora of Bhutan based on recent collections from Mongar and Samdrup Jongkhar districts. The species is distinguished from the only previously recorded Bhutanese congener, Chrysojasminum humile , by its 2–5‐foliolate leaves, leaf blades 1–13 cm long, cymes arranged in panicles with 10–30 flowers, and pedicels 0.5–7 cm long. In Bhutan, it occurs on steep slopes in mixed grassland and shrubland elevations of 1243–1739 m and was observed in Mongar in association with the critically endangered orchid Paphiopedilum fairrieanum . This finding extends the known distribution of the species to Bhutan and increases the number of Chrysojasminum species in the country to two. The record highlights the floristic importance of eastern Bhutan and emphasizes the need for continued taxonomic exploration in the region.
