Key Points

  • This research aims to assess the effect of acid treatment on the conductivity of carbon nanotube-based films.
  • Flexible transparent conducting films were prepared using sodium dodecyl sulfate-dispersed singlewalled carbon nanotubes.
  • The films underwent immersion in various acids to evaluate changes in conductivity and transmittance.
  • Conductivity measurements were taken to determine the enhancement factor post-treatment.
  • Film conductivity increased by a factor of ∼4 after acid treatment with minimal change in visible transmittance.
  • Enhancements were linked to the removal of SDS and improved film density.
  • Densified films showed reduced cross-junction resistance between SWCNT networks, leading to enhanced metallicity.

Abstract

Flexible transparent conducting films with sodium dodecyl sulfate-dispersed singlewalled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were prepared by a spray method and were further immersed in various acids. The film conductivity was enhanced by a factor of ∼4 with a negligible change in the transmittance in the visible range. This enhancement was attributed to the removal of remaining SDS and the subsequent densified film formation to improve the cross-junction resistance between SWCNT networks and enhanced metallicity of SWCNTs.
