This resource provides a 4DEE-aligned undergraduate ornithology course framework that integrates avian biology across ecological, evolutionary, organismal, and human dimensions. Organized into nine modules, the course uses birds as a model system to explore morphology, physiology, behavior, community ecology, migration, and conservation across spatial and temporal scales. The resource combines lectures, laboratory investigations, outdoor bird observation, field notebooks, primary literature, and citizen science data (e.g., eBird) to support active, evidence-based learning. Students engage in bird identification, comparative anatomy, behavioral observation, and data interpretation while developing skills in scientific reasoning and communication. Designed using backward course design, the framework emphasizes synthesis over memorization and repeatedly engages students in connecting core ecological concepts, ecology practices, cross-cutting themes, and humanenvironment interactions.
