Key Points

  • The research aims to characterize a blaNDM-1-harboring strain of C. portucalensis and assess its global epidemiology.
  • Isolation of C. portucalensis strain from hospital wastewater
  • Genomic characterization of the isolated strain
  • Analysis of global prevalence of blaNDM-1 positive strains
  • Assessment of potential for environmental dissemination
  • The isolated strain carries the blaNDM-1 gene, associated with antimicrobial resistance.
  • Global analysis shows a concerning prevalence of blaNDM-1 in C. portucalensis.
  • The findings emphasize the environmental risks and need for coordinated containment measures.

Abstract

In summary, we report a blaNDM-1-carrying C. portucalensis strain isolated from hospital wastewater in China and analyze the global prevalence of blaNDM-1 positive C. portucalensis, highlighting its potential for environmental dissemination and the urgent need for coordinated measures to curb blaNDM-1 spread.
