Key Points

  • The aim is to assess how the IMB Skill Model-based continuity care affects nutritional status in elderly hemodialysis patients.
  • 80 elderly hemodialysis patients were randomly assigned to an observation or control group.
  • The control group received routine care while the observation group received IMB model-based continuity care.
  • Nutritional assessments and dietary management compliance were evaluated at 3 and 6 months.
  • The observation group had higher subjective general nutrition assessment scores.
  • Measurements such as triceps skin fold and upper arm muscle circumference improved in the observation group.
  • Laboratory indicators like albumin and hemoglobin levels were significantly higher in the observation group.
  • Dietary management compliance scores were also better in the observation group.

Abstract

Abstract:Objective To observe the effect of the IMB Skill Model-based continuity care model on nutritional status and dietary management compliance in maintenance hemodialysis elderly patients. Methods A total of 80 maintenance hemodialysis elderly patients admitted to the Blood Purification Center of Rugao Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine (January 2025 to December 2025) were selected and randomly divided into groups using the random number method. The control group (n=40) received routine care, while the observation group (n=40) received IMB model-based continuity care intervention. The subjective general nutrition assessment scale (SGA) scores, anthropometric measurements, laboratory biochemical indicators, and dietary management compliance scores were compared between the two groups at 3 months (T1) and 6 months (T2) after intervention. Results After intervention, the observation group showed higher SGA excellent rate, greater thickness of triceps skin fold (TSF), upper arm muscle circumference (AMC), and higher levels of albumin (ALB), transferrin (TF), and hemoglobin (Hb) compared to the control group. The dietary management compliance score was also higher in the observation group (P<0.05). Conclusion The IMB Skill Model-based continuity care model can effectively improve the nutritional status and dietary management compliance of maintenance hemodialysis elderly patients, making it worthy of clinical promotion and application.
