Abstract

The following repositories were consulted for information about the assessment area as part of the desk-based assessment: APAC.Ltd Archive material. (APAC) Online mapping sources British Geological Society Historic England (HE) online portal Gloucestershire, Historic Environment Record (HER) Site visit Relevant published and unpublished sources including books, journal articles and grey literature. The assessment methods used followed that detailed in Standard and Guidance for Historic Environment desk-based assessment, CIFA 2017, updated 2020. This Desk-Based Assessment has been prepared at the request of the client in order to better inform the planning authority in deciding a proposed planning application. The proposal is for site regeneration under the government's Levelling Up Fund, to include new sports, leisure, educational, arts and community facilities on a former College Campus. The desk-based assessment is a compilation of accessible information about the site, within its setting, and is required to assess the potential for disturbance to archaeological resources during the course of the proposed development. The desk-based assessment has identified some possible risks to archaeological resources, during the proposed development. As such a programme of archaeological works is recommended to mitigate any impact on potential archaeological resources.
