  • Clarified nomenclature and morphological characteristics
  • Identified preliminary conservation status with detailed images of living plants

Abstract

Calydorea gardneri Baker (Iridaceae) was described in 1876 based on specimens from the state of Piauí, Northeast Region of Brazil. For more than a century, few collections and information on its morphology were added, hindering access to reliable data on the species and, consequently, its conservation. Here, we provide new data on the morphology, current distribution and ecology of C. gardneri, as well as nomenclatural clarifications and a preliminary conservation status including, for the first time, photographs of living plants that document important morphological characters.
