BBBaran BalcanKoç UniversityAPAylin PıhtılıEKEsen KıyanIstanbul University

Key Points

  • This research aims to explore the clinical characteristics and risk factors associated with obstructive sleep apnea.
  • Conducted a cross-sectional analysis using data from the TURKAPNE cohort
  • Included 12,715 adults with sleep apnea symptoms
  • Evaluated both objective risk factors and subjective symptoms
  • Objective risk factors and nocturnal symptoms provided better identification of clinically significant OSA
  • Subjective sleepiness was less effective in recognizing severe cases

Abstract

In this large nationwide sleep clinic cohort, objective risk factors and classic nocturnal symptoms were more informative than subjective sleepiness in identifying clinically significant OSA and support a risk-based approach in routine pulmonary practice.
