Abstract

The vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 represents India’s aspiration to become a developed nation by its centenary of independence. Colleges and higher education institutions (HEIs) play a pivotal role in realizing this vision through their contributions to social responsibility and nation building. This paper examines the multifaceted role of colleges in shaping civic consciousness, fostering ethical leadership, and promoting inclusive development. Drawing upon conceptual frameworks of social responsibility in education, the study highlights initiatives such as community engagement, skill development, environmental sustainability, and gender sensitization. The methodology integrates qualitative analysis of institutional practices with secondary data from policy documents and scholarly literature. Results indicate that colleges serve as incubators of democratic values, social equity, and innovation, thereby aligning with national priorities. The discussion emphasizes challenges such as resource constraints, policy implementation gaps, and the need for holistic curricula. The conclusion underscores that colleges must transcend traditional academic boundaries to become active agents of social transformation. By embedding social responsibility into pedagogy and practice, HEIs can significantly contribute to the realization of Viksit Bharat 2047.
