A study on the impact of oil and gas exploration on women was conducted in 2011 in the entire nine States of Niger Delta, Southern part of Nigeria. Data included a survey of a 50 women aged 19-70 years old. Secondary data which was the major source of information for the study were generated from journals, newspapers and text books which were related to the subjectmatter. The paper evaluated the various impacts of oil and gas exploration on women. Research findings indicated that the various impacts inter-alia included denial of women of agricultural land, stripping women of fishing rights, growing incidence of teenage pregnancy, maternal mobidity and mortality. The paper attributed the major causes to oil-spill, which led to the pollution of terrestrial as well as aquatic life, and the mindless activities of the oil companies, that made little or no effort to clean up polluted lands, streams and rivers. This in no small measure contributed to the impoverishment of the women through the decimation of their sources of livelihood. The paper recommended cleaning up of polluted terrestrial as well as marine ecosystems by concerned oil companies, extension of micro credit to the women, granting of women equal education opportunities amongst others, to enhance their living standard and their productivity to the national economy.
