Abstract

Carbon fiber reinforced plastic is a fiber-reinforced plastic composed of carbon fibers and resin. Due to its characteristics of being lightweight and highly rigid, it is used in many industrial products. Focusing on its use in impact-absorbing components, it possesses high energy absorption performance and is utilized in racing vehicles and similar applications. However, it tends to exhibit a large initial peak load, resulting in sudden loading. Therefore, the authors focused on a foam core sandwich structure using a foaming agent as the core material to reduce the initial peak load. They evaluated its impact absorption performance through drop weight tests.
