Abstract

Jeff Hutchings’ contributions to research in evolution and ecology, fisheries, and policy had considerable impact on our scientific community. In this introductory paper for the special collection commemorating the work and ideas of Jeff Hutchings, we draw links between Jeff's foundational work and ideas as a driver of the work reported in this collection, demonstrating how Jeff's ideas continue to shape fisheries research around the globe. The papers in the collection are introduced within three foundational but connected themes of Jeff's work: life-history theory, fisheries science, and science policy.
