Abstract

Abstract Purpose of this paper: This paper examines the impact of automated tendering systems on transparency and accountability in procurement processes. Design/methodology/approach: A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining a quantitative survey of procurement professionals with qualitative interviews involving key stakeholders in tender management. Descriptive statistical analysis and thematic analysis were used to assess the influence of automation on information accessibility, audit trails, compliance, and decision-making. Findings: The findings indicate that automated tendering systems significantly enhance transparency through real-time access to information and standardized procedures. In addition, accountability is strengthened by reducing human discretion and limiting opportunities for malpractice within the tendering process. Research limitations/implications: The study is limited by its reliance on self-reported data and its focus on specific organisational contexts. Future research could explore broader geographic settings and assess the long-term effects of automated systems on procurement governance. Practical implications: The study provides insights for policymakers and organisations by highlighting the importance of adopting automated tendering systems to improve transparency, strengthen accountability, and enhance overall procurement efficiency.
