Key Points

  • The study aims to investigate the redox behavior of ferrocene in an ionic liquid using advanced electrochemical techniques.
  • Conducted steady-state voltammetry of ferrocene in 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate
  • Utilized scanning electrochemical cell microscopy on a glassy carbon substrate
  • Analyzed voltammograms using new analytical expressions and validated through numerical modeling
  • Successfully extracted the diffusion coefficient of ferrocene in the ionic liquid
  • Linear sweep voltammograms provided insights into redox reactions in ionic environments

Abstract

Steady-state voltammetry of the redox mediator ferrocene in the room temperature ionic liquid, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate was carried out using scanning electrochemical cell microscopy (SECCM) on a glassy carbon substrate. The measured linear sweep voltammograms (LSVs) were analyzed using recently developed analytical expressions, and validated using numerical modeling, to extract the diffusion coefficient,
