IPS-B — The AME IPS as Biomimetic Cardiovascular Architecture

View Full Paper

Key Result

The biomimetic Internal Plumbing System requires an apex-mounted pump operating at 29.4 W for structures above a 5-meter threshold, occupying only 0.005% of structural volume.

Key Points

  • This research examines the Internal Plumbing System (IPS) as a biomimetic model for cardiovascular architecture.
  • Established the IPS framework using a 10-generation diameter hierarchy based on Murray's Law.
  • Conducted scale dependency analysis to determine structural requirements for elevation above 5 m.
  • Measured the operational efficiency of the apex-mounted pump and examined volume occupation relative to human systems.
  • Demonstrated a 10-generation diameter hierarchy with diameters ranging from 50 mm to 5 mm.
  • The apex pump operates at 29.4 W, significantly lower than traditional systems, ensuring vessel patency.
  • IPS occupies only 0.005% of structural volume, far less than human circulatory systems at 7% body mass.

The application of Murray's Law to the biomimetic Internal Plumbing System demonstrates efficient fluid distribution requiring minimal pump power and structural volume.

Abstract

The Internal Plumbing System (IPS) of the Adaptive Matrix Ecosystem is specified as a biomimetic cardiovascular architecture. The correspondence between the IPS and the human cardiovascular system is functional, not metaphorical: both systems distribute pressurised flow through fluid-saturated elastic media, and both are governed by Murray's Law for optimal vessel sizing. Applying Murray's Law to the IPS yields a 10-generation diameter hierarchy from 50 mm arterial highways to 5 mm AMW-deployed capillaries, with a bifurcation ratio of 0.794 at each branching point. The apex-mounted pump operates at 29.4 W for a 15-metre levee-scale structure — less than a domestic light bulb — maintaining vessel patency continuously against the cracking pressure field derived in the companion paper (Paper A). The pre-installed IPS occupies 0.005% of structural volume, three orders of magnitude below the human circulatory system's 7% of body mass, because the AME's structural medium is also its circulatory fluid. A scale dependency analysis establishes a threshold at approximately 5 m structural height: below this, gravity fill is sufficient; above, full cardiovascular architecture including apex pump is structurally necessary. The generalised Murray's Law for elliptical cross-sections is applied to partially inflated IPS highways operating in State 3.

James Danenberg (2026) studied this question. Internal Plumbing System (IPS) was evaluated. The biomimetic Internal Plumbing System requires an apex-mounted pump operating at 29.4 W for structures above a 5-meter threshold, occupying only 0.005% of structural volume.
