Abstract

The 21st century has brought significant transformations in global financial markets, largely driven by globalization and technological advancements. Investors in developed economies are increasingly seeking alternative avenues to diversify portfolios and achieve higher returns, with private equity (PE) emerging as a prominent investment vehicle. Private equity has not only attracted substantial capital inflows but has also influenced corporate strategies, governance structures, and overall business growth worldwide. Globalization has intensified economic interconnectedness and accelerated changes in technology, business models, and socio-economic conditions, creating both opportunities and challenges for traditional public equity markets. These conventional markets, constrained by regulatory, liquidity, and structural limitations, have prompted investors to explore private equity as a more flexible and potentially high-yield alternative. In India, the private equity sector has grown rapidly, reflecting global trends while addressing domestic market needs. PE investments have played a key role in fostering entrepreneurship, innovation, and corporate restructuring, thereby strengthening the capital market ecosystem. This study examines evolving investment trends in India, emphasizing the expanding role of private equity in shaping the country’s capital markets. It explores the factors driving PE adoption, the benefits and challenges associated with these investments, and their broader implications for financial markets and economic development. By highlighting the intersection of globalization, alternative investments, and market evolution, the research offers valuable insights for policymakers, investors, and financial institutions seeking to navigate the complexities of modern capital markets
