IGIeda Maria GiongoMQMarli Teresinha QuartieriNANathália Raquel Adiers

Key Points

  • This research examines the intersection between Ethnomathematics and Gert Biesta's educational contributions, particularly focusing on teaching practices.
  • Discussed theoretical contributions from Ethnomathematics and Gert Biesta's work.
  • Adopted Gelsa Knijnik's perspective on Ethnomathematics.
  • Interpreted ideas through Wittgenstein and Foucaldian theories.
  • Identified three pillars of similarity: criticism of learning measurement processes, problematization of scientific advances, and the role of teachers in teaching processes.
  • Demonstrated the productivity of dialogues between the two theoretical frameworks.

Abstract

The research aimed to discuss the dialogue between theoretical contributions from the field of Ethnomathematics and some produced by the educator Gert Biesta, especially those expressed in his work The (Re)discovery of Teaching. With regard to Ethnomathematics, the perspective adopted is that of Gelsa Knijnik, intersecting ideas from Ludwig Wittgenstein's mature work and a set of Foucauldian notions. The results point to the productivity of the dialogues, since the similarities are expressed in three important pillars when considering teaching and learning processes: criticism of learning measurement processes, problematization of scientific advances, and the role of teachers in teaching processes.
