Abstract

Plans are underway, such as the U.S.-led Artemis mission, for humankind to once again aim for the Moon. Unlike the International Space Station (ISS), currently serving as humanity's orbital outpost, the Moon stands over 1,000 times farther from Earth, making transportation costs a pivotal consideration for lunar missions. This report follows Sato et al.'s previous study on establishing a manned lunar base camp. This time, the focus is on the crucial life support systems for sustained human presence. We calculated and compared the weight and volume of essential life support equipment across three scenarios: fully expendable, physicochemical circulatory (akin to the ISS), and vegetative circulatory types.
