Assessing Visual Arts Curricula in the Sultanate of Oman in Light of the Twenty

Objective: This study aims to assess Visual Arts Curricula in the Sultanate of Oman in Light of the Twenty-First Century Skills from the Arts Teachers' and Supervisors' Points of View. The study also aimed to identify the effect of gender variables and years of experience in assessing curricula. Methodology: The descriptive analytical research method was used, and the study sample consisted of (197) teachers and supervisors of the Visual Arts subject. The study tool was applied in the second semester of the 2023-2024 academic year. To achieve the objectives of the study, a questionnaire was designed consisting of (39) items distributed over (6) axes, which are: critical thinking and problem solving skills, creative thinking skills, effective communication skills, the use of new technology skills, self-learning skills, and community cooperation and participation skills in teaching Visual Arts. Results: The study results showed a high degree of assessment among teachers and supervisors of the Visual Arts subject in the various skills of the 21st century. The study also showed that there were no statistically significant differences attributed to the gender variable or years of experience in assessing Visual Arts curricula in the Sultanate of Oman, from the perspective of teachers and supervisors of the subject, in light of twenty-first-century skills. Conclusions: The study concluded the importance of 21st-century skills in assessing arts curricula. Recommendations: The study also recommends conducting other similar studies to assess Visual Arts curricula, as was done in this study in light of 21st-century skills. The study also recommends working to provide the educational field with more Arab knowledge and references that deal with twenty-first-century skills in the Visual Arts while emphasizing the need to apply more skills in the educational field and include them in the curricula. الهدف: هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى تقييم مناهج الفنون التشكيلية في سلطنة عُمان في ضوء مهارات القرن الحادي والعشرين من وجهة نظر معلمي المادة ومشرفيها. كما هدفت التعرف على أثر متغيرات النوع الاجتماعي وسنوات الخبرة في تقييم المناهج. المنهج: تم استخدام المنهج الوصفي التحليلي، وتكونت عينة الدراسة من (197) من معلمي مادة الفنون التشكيلية ومشرفيها. ولتحقيق أهداف الدراسة، تم تصميم استبانة تكونت من (39) فقرة موزعة على (6) محاور وهي: مهارة التفكير الناقد وحل المشكلات، ومهارة التفكير الإبداعي، ومهارة التواصل الفعال، ومهارة استخدام التقنيات الحديثة، ومهارة التعلم الذاتي، ومهارة التعاون والمشاركة المجتمعية في تدريس الفنون التشكيلية. وتم تطبيق أداة الدراسة في الفصل الثاني للعام الدراسي 2023-2024. النتائج: أظهرت نتائج الدراسة وجود درجة تقييم عالية لدى معلمي مادة الفنون التشكيلية ومشرفيها في مختلف المهارات المذكورة. وأظهرت أيضًا عدم وجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية بين أفراد العينة تعزى لمتغير النوع الاجتماعي وسنوات الخبرة. الاستنتاجات: خلصت الدراسة إلى أهمية مهارات القرن الحادي والعشرين في تقييم مناهج الفنون. التوصيات: أوصت الدراسة بإجراء دراسات أخرى مشابه لتقييم مناهج الفنون التشكيلية في ضوء مهارات القرن الحادي والعشرين، وأوصت كذلك بالعمل على تغذية الحقل التربوي بالمزيد من المعارف والمراجع العربية التي تعنى بمهارات القرن الحادي والعشرين في الفنون التشكيلية، مع التأكيد على ضرورة تطبيق المهارات بشكل أكبر في الميدان التربوي وتضمينها في المناهج الدراسية.
