Abstract

ABSTRACT A thorough and rational analysis and assessment of the stability of rock slopes is crucial for the prevention and timely warning of landslide occurrences. Aiming at the fuzzy information in evaluation of rock slope stability, a model for assessing the stability of rock slope based on improved intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IFS) was proposed, which is a kind of IFS founded on the theory of unascertained measure (UIFS). The UIFS is an extension and improvement of IFS by using the theory of unascertained measure (UM). Firstly, the UM was used to deal with the slope stability evaluation indexes and determine the membership of the indexes. The UM was introduced into the IFS, and an index measurement matrix based on IFS (IFS‐index measurement matrix) was constructed. Addressing the limitations inherent in using a single weighting approach, the weight of index on the basis of IFS (IFS‐weight) was obtained by using IFS to optimise the scope of index weightings. Then, the constructed model was used to calculate the scores of 16 groups of slope samples, and the grades of slope sample stability were obtained, and the results of evaluation for slope samples stability were compared with those of five other models and the prevailing conditions. Finally, the fuzziness of index weight is analysed. The results show that the established model based on UIFS is applicable for slope stability evaluation, and is able to support the analysis of evaluation indexes weight.
